Ferguson Chat Part III


Cool 100 has established itself in a heavily saturated local radio market in part because of the growing popularity of country music with several age demographics.

Ferguson says the station scores particularly well with women in the 25-54 age bracket, but its appeal isn’t limited to that particular group. He points out the wide age range at a recent Johnny Reid show at the Empire Theatre, saying there were children as young as eight and adults as old as 80 at the concert.

“Country’s a unique format in that it transcends demographics,” he says.

Ferguson says he is looking forward to making the annual trek to Havelock, noting the incredible success of the festival.

“On a national level, it’s huge,” he says. “It’s one of the biggest festivals in the country, and the fact they pull this off in Havelock and draw 50,000 to 60,000 people is amazing.”
